This stunning conclusion pulls no stops!

Just wow! This conclusion gave me everything I wanted. Dark romance, twisted love, hard choices, harder consequences, and a finale that leaves room for more! The best one yet.

Echo Volume 4: The Last Edge of Darkness, by Kent Wayne

SciFi. Dystopian. Military.

5 stars.

A perfect conclusion to a fantastic story.

From the first, I was caught in Mr. Kent Wayne’s world of Echo. I am a sucker for SciFi military drama, and this one pushed those boundaries and added elements not typically delved into at this level. I appreciated that, though I wonder if many might find it preachy. But those people are not my problem 😉 I bring it up only because this is a review, and if you’re prone to being angry for others talking about their way that’s not your way, well, you decide.

Atriya is pushed like he’s never been, and rather than become a gregariously drawn-out beat down, it only instills the magnitude of what’s happening. I just want to talk abou tthis book with everyone. Read it. Let’s have a conversation. It’s exactly how I felt after reading Seven Surrenders and The Will to Battle by Ada Palmer. Concepts that stretch my worldview, that make me think on what I know and make me question and seek.

There are no many things to say, but I won’t add spoilers to a review, so just read this series, then get back to me. Check out all my highlights from this book on my Goodreads profile.

Book Review of The Wolf Queen, By Adrian Tilling

Teen Fantasy.

A fun Story with a little bit of everything.

Laneyth is home to the Ozera family and an impending rebellion. To save his country, King Svetozar sends an invitation to William Starker, a young but well-known general. William strikes a friendship with Channin Ozera, heir to the throne. Together, the girl in the orchard and the boy on the battlefield will start a fire that may just consume all Laneyth.

The Wolf Queen, by Adrian Tilling was a fun, classic fantasy tale. I felt like I was reading a some side story of Morrowwind!

I enjoyed the third person multiple perspective. I hear most are not a fan of this, and I’ve found it seems to have dropped out of favor in the publishing world, but I enjoy it. It always makes the story move along smoothly, as if I’m watching it from the outside, rather than forced behind a single POV.

There were some technical problems along the way. Structural, more than grammer, etc which hitched the story a bit and brought my rating to 3 stars rather than 4. Some smoothing of the narration or something needed to be done to bring this story to the next level. Not a deal breaker, I very much enjoyed the story.

The MC, Channin, I felt, went through a weird progression. Where she starts out strong and fierce, I feel she ends at the opposite end of the spectrum. I’m curious to read a next installment to see how that might play out. Brave and idealistic, by the end, I thought she kind of turned into a sniveling brat. I’m curious to hear your thoughts on this…

Overall, a fun, classic fantasy read with vampires, dragons, werewolves and strong heros.

Gripping, Heart-wrenching, and perfectly paced.

The “Borderline” series tells two tales, of two parallel realities, based on one true story.

Taya DeVere understands “trust the reader.” She pulls us along with perfectly factored information without bogging us down in descriptive histories that would only stall the pace of the novel. I was forced to slow myself down to not flip pages too quickly and ruin the story. I just wanted to know what was going to happen!!

The heart-wrenching struggles of the MC are real, powerful and relatable even as I’ve never experienced what she was going through. Well done! The straightforward telling of events, without reason or excuse or fluffed meanderings of explanation make this experience perfect for the reader. I was in this story, and while I typically shy away from “real life” tellings (I’m a fantasy/sci-fi girl as I like my fiction fiction) I would recommend this book to everyone. I even ravaged the pages we were given to as a teaser for book two. Unnecessary, by the way- I’m already hooked!

I couldn’t stop reading.

Meet Montana Stanford, a precocious teen with an iron will and a passion for life that affects everyone around her. Living with her brothers in Vancouver’s West End, she seeks love and excitement in everything she does. Of course, life is no bed of roses as she attracts the ire of some easy opponents and makes some enemies who are harder to shake. The first in a series, West End Montana establishes N.M. McGregor as an author of impactful romantic fiction.

Another one off the “I don’t normally read that” shelf. I really need to stop saying that. This story was captivating and riveting and all those words the Times uses to help sell books. But this one really is all those things, and more!

Montana is a character I just adored. Tough-as-nails with a confidence I wish I’d had a quarter of when I was her age, I had to keep reminding myself of her age; to re-ground myself to the story from this perspective. So many things that I never had to deal with -ever- Montana deals with before her sweet sixteen. Listening to her recount her tale was seamless, and I couldn’t stop once I’d started.

So many characters perfectly woven together to create this community of people I loved to hear more about. The brothers. The friends. The friends-of-friends. And all told in a wonderful use of flashbacks not many can pull off. It was this I most enjoyed, the teasing of the tragic now mixed masterfully with the story of how it reached that point.

There wasn’t one page of this book that was unnecessary. Heartstrings pulled on so many levels was a gift I, as a reader, cherished. I feel this is a book I will read again and again.

If you like coming-of-age stories, this is a book for you. If you like well written, smartly paced tales of ordinary peoples lives and their struggles, heartaches, and triumphs, this is for you. If you want to laugh and cry and love, this book is for you, as well.
